The Kellogg Institute Visiting Fellowships 2025-2026 welcome international scholars pursuing doctoral or postdoctoral research in the USA. Hosted by the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame since 1983, this prestigious program fosters interdisciplinary global research in a collaborative academic community.

As a visiting fellow, you will conduct research on democracy, human development, and related global issues, engage with Notre Dame’s scholarly network, and collaborate with experts from around the world. Fellows also have the opportunity to publish in the Kellogg Working Paper Series, advancing both personal research goals and the Institute’s mission.

    Program Duration:

    • Full academic year: August to May

    • Fall semester: August to December

    • Spring semester: January to May

    • In exceptional cases, two-year postdoctoral visiting fellowships may be awarded to one or two outstanding applicants each year.

    Application Deadline: Applications open August 1 and close October 1 for the following academic year.

    Scholarship Type: Fully funded study abroad fellowship for international researchers focusing on democracy, human development, and global studies.

Eligibility Criteria for Kellogg Institute Visiting Fellowships

To be eligible for Kellogg Institute Visiting Fellowships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Required Languages: English

  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries.

  • Promising junior and mid-career scholars (typically postdocs and assistant or associate professors)

  • Distinguished senior scholars with an established record of scholarly excellence

  • Accomplished policymakers, journalists, and other practitioners whose knowledge and experience can link policy and scholarship

  • In exceptional cases, the Institute will support applicants with a Ph.D. or its equivalent in other disciplines.

  • The Institute welcomes applications from eminent scholars and practitioners who do not hold a Ph.D.

  • Advanced ABD graduate students may apply, but awards are contingent on their having completed the Ph.D. before beginning the fellowship.

  • Advanced English language proficiency is required.

  • Foreign nationals must have a valid passport and be able to obtain a J-1 Visa.
