The Journalists in Residence Program is open to international reporters aiming to become the next generation of leaders in business and economic journalism. Launched in March 2017 by the Stigler Center at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the program offers a transformative learning experience for talented journalists from around the world, working across all media formats. Its core mission is to strengthen the future of high-quality business reporting.
Hosted on the Hyde Park campus over a 12-week period, the program allows participants to audit courses, engage in events, collaborate with peers, and interact with world-class faculty and scholars. Examples of courses include The Firm and the Non-Market Environment with Professor Marianne Bertrand and Crony Capitalism with Professor Luigi Zingales.
Participants are expected to:
Audit three selected courses
Attend classes, complete readings, and actively participate in discussions
Join Stigler lectures, networking lunches, and social events
Sign an agreement confirming adherence to program guidelines

Scholarship Coverage
Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program provides the recipients with below benefits:
Reimbursement for economy-class airfare to/from Chicago and SEVIS and visa application fees
A stipend* of $12,000 to cover living expenses over the 12-week program
Training in business fundamentals at Chicago Booth

Opportunities to collaborate with Booth faculty, students, and fellow program participants
Designated study space
Certificate of participation upon successful completion of program
*The stipend is subject to tax withholding of up to 14 percent for international participants. Please check your country’s tax treaty with the United States for more information.

To be eligible for Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Required Languages: Proficient in English
Eligible Countries: All World Countries.
Working journalists who have some years of media experience.

Resume/CV
Three published news articles
Submit a copy of three published news articles, preferably in English. If the articles are not in English, a translation should be submitted along with the original articles.
For TV or radio journalists, please include links to your video/audio files in a PDF or Word document along with English transcriptions.
Personal essays (500 words max)
Describe your interest in the program and the goals you hope to achieve through the program.
Tell us more about your experience and interest in the field of economics and political economy and what you hope to learn in these areas.
Two letters of recommendation
Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency (waived if your undergraduate or graduate degree was obtained in a college/university where English is the primary language of instruction or in an English-speaking country). Examples of proof of English proficiency include:
Certificates or standardized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, Cambridge, Duolingo, etc.)
English equivalency diploma or certificate awarded by accredited national education institution
Work experience in an English-speaking office with a letter from a manager affirming language skills
